Theme (Science/Social Studies)/Math/Social Emotional Learning: Apples/Pumpkins Dear Families, We are completing up our apple unit this week and will begin our pumpkin unit. We will be investigating our apples and looking at their color, height, and weight. We will be exploring the life cycle of a pumpkin and wrapping up our week making applesauce in the classroom. In math, we will be making three different patterns with apples, learning about five frames, and measuring pumpkins. For math centers, we will be exploring our apples by counting our seeds, weighing our apple, and making a print of our apple. If you have not had a chance to send in one or two apples with your child, please do so on Tuesday. This week in Second Step we will focus on being assertive. Our field trip is Wednesday, Oct. 18th. Please make sure your child has submitted their permission slip and fee. As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, Oct. 9th in observance of Columbus Day. Writing:

Ms. Maltz [email protected] rmaltz.weebly.com Make sure to also ask your child about our apple volcano experiment. You should have heard the ohhhhs and ahhhhs! All you need to do is cut some of the apple out at the top and center, add baking soda and food coloring to the hole. Finally, pour vinegar in the hole and watch the eruption. This is a really fun activity to do at home as a family.
We seem to like green apples the best! We will be watching the apples all week to see what happens to them. Students then worked on a corresponding paper to fill in the information and practice making tallies.
We have a lot more apples learning and activities to do this week and part of next week. Room 104 Families,
