Calm Classroom is great and could be very useful during this time. Ms. Nieto, our counselor, also sent me a video of her leading one of our favorite Calm Classrooms. I am currently trying to figure out how to send that through Dojo or post it here. I may just have to email it. Send me an email ([email protected]) if you would like to see Ms. Nieto leading a Calm Classroom.
Start with the question words:
Who? Who was in the book? What? What happened? In the beginning? Middle? End? What is the problem in this story? Where? Where did this story take place? (We do use the word: setting) How? How was the problem solved? (We do use the word: solution) Why? Why did you like/not like this book? Why do you think _____ happened in this story? Questions to Ask BEFORE Reading: What do you predict will happen in this story? Why? Is this book fiction or non fiction? Based on the cover and title, where do you think this story takes place (setting)? Questions to Ask DURING Reading: What do you think is going to happen next? Why? Do you have a prediction for the end? Why? How does the main character feel during the story? Is that different from how they felt at the beginning? Questions to Ask AFTER reading: Do you like this book? Why? What happened in this books? Beginning? Middle? End? What was your favorite part? Why? Who was your favorite character? Why? What did you like about them? Can you tell me in your own words what happened in the story? If you would change anything about the story, what would that be?
