Ms. Maltz’s Kindergarteners Present…
The Very Hungry Caterpillar Dear Parents, We are excited to end the school year with a fun filled performance from our kindergarten class. The Very Hungry Caterpillar performance will be held on June 17th at 10:30 a.m. in the Ray School auditorium. Over the next few weeks we will be creating the backdrop, practicing our lines and songs in preparation for our performance to our families and friends. We need a little help from home so here is where you come in… Each child will be assigned a role in our play. Please create a costume for your child to represent their part in the play. You can purchase a giant posterboard/foamcore board and decorate it for their costume. Don’t forget to cut out a hole in the middle so their head can pop out. ☺ You can also create the costume from other materials too. Below is an example to help with your creation. Have fun and look for more info about the play on our blog and reminders that will be sent home in the upcoming weeks. Thanks, Ms. Maltz Child: ____________ Role: _____________ Room 104 Families,

Dear Kindergarten Families,
Over the next two weeks we will be learning about insects/butterflies. We are really excited to get this unit kicked off on Monday. For the first part of the week we will be looking at the structure of different insects and compare and contrast their body structures. For the rest of the week we will specifically be studying the ant and bee. We will be discussing habitat, insect job, predator, diet, etc. We also have some fun insect math activities and great writing prompts planned too. On Friday, June 3rd all the kindergarten classes will be holding a small science fair for each of the other kindergarten classes. The other classes will be walking around viewing each other’s chosen insect. Your child will have a chance to talk about their research and findings. So here is where you come in…you and your child are to research one insect (not spider) and create a small poster board showing and describing his/her insect. Here is what you need to include: - Picture or drawing of insect - habitat - diet - prey and predator - job of insect - 2 interesting facts Have FUN with this science project! Get creative with what the presentation will look like. Also, we ask that your child write everything. (Remember that we spell phonetically in kindergarten) ☺ The Kindergarten Team Projects due: Friday, June 3rd a really cool lima bean plant!
Our Ray School Walk-a-Thon is only a few days away. We are still in fifth place currently! Students do not have to fundraise in order to participate but it is a good idea to set up a donor's page in your child's name anyway and share it on your social media and with friends and family. You never know who will donate! Our Lincoln Park Zoo field trip is next Tuesday. Students should dress for the weather and bring a disposable lunch. Thank you in advance to our chaperones. Walk-A-Thon Room 104 is doing so well in raising money for the Walk-a-Thon on Friday. We are currently in 5th place. Keep up the amazing work! For more information go to the Ray School website, linked at the top of this page. Also, make sure your child is wearing comfortable walking shoes on Friday and is ready to for the weather - whatever that may be. ABC Countdown The countdown to the end of the year is on! Please visit the Ray School website, linked above, so see the special thing that is happening each day as we count down to summer. Caterpillars Inside this net, hanging out in our book center are 20 caterpillars ready to become butterflies. We are so excited to watch the life cycle up close and just in time for us to start our insect unit next week.
