Please join us for Kindergarten Orientation (technically orientation for grades K - 4) on Thursday, August 31st starting at 2:45 p.m. in the Ray School Auditorium. There will be an ice cream social sponsored by the PTO to follow. At this time you will get the meet the teacher and learn about Ray School. I am looking forward to seeing many happy new faces.
On the first day of school kindergarten parents are allowed to to come up to the classroom with their child in the morning. You will get to see the classroom and take pictures. As the students settle in I will give some brief announcements. Following this there will be a Kindergarten Parent Coffee in the lunchroom. For the past few years I have had Room Parents and it has been an amazing asset to the classroom. The Room Parents help to organize donations for lessons and set up a class email list to help get important announcements out to everyone. If you would like to be a Room Parent let me know. I can get you in contact with one from last year to help you get started. Welcome to Room 104! This is going to be a very exciting year. Here is a little background on me: I grew up in the north suburbs and moved to the city after finishing my undergraduate work. I graduated from National-Louis University with a degree in Elementary Education. I completed my master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago to become a Reading Specialist. Additionally, I have an endorsement in English as a Second Language also from the University of Illinois at Chicago. My classroom teaching experience includes teaching kindergarten, second grade, and fifth grade. I have also been an aide and substitute in CPS. This will be my sixth year teaching kindergarten at Ray and I truly love and enjoy it. During my free time I love to read, exercise, travel (the Pictures page you can access has many photos of things we study in kindergarten from my travels), go to restaurants, go to museums, and very basic cooking. In April 2013, my husband and I welcomed an english bulldog puppy into our lives that we named Stella. She is a great dog and we spend lots of time on walks, going to the dog park, and just hanging out around the condo. My students love to hear stories about what Stella has been up to. Because she is too cute to pass up, below is a picture of Stella from from May 2017. I post newsletters weekly and updates and reminders as necessary. I suggest you also check the pages on the top under "more" often as they are frequently updated. I also use a program called Remind to send families pictures and short updates/reminders (for example: field trips, spirit day, pajama day, etc.) through either text message or email, whichever you pick. You will get a paper on how to sign up the first week of school. I no longer post student focused pictures on my website and instead send them through Remind because it is secure and can only be viewed by the people who sign up. Pictures posted on my website are more of "things" and typically do not have student faces.
It would be helpful for you to send me an email with your name and the name of your child. That way I know I have your correct email. All newsletters and updates will be posted on the blog and sent as a paper copy in the home folders. Send me an email if you would like to go paperless with the weekly newsletter. Our excellent kindergarten team will be working hard all year to meet the needs of all students. Feel free to contact me at: [email protected] |
